The "American Genocide" Affirmative
The Native American Genocide began before 1492 with the Pequot Indians and Colonists but, escalated in during that time when Christopher Columbus had returned from Portugal, he brought along 17 ships where he began to kill and enslave the Taino population, of the Caribbean. Another account of this would be with the Spanish colonists which, was bestowed upon the indigenous people. Despite all of this, the largest amount of hardship came from the Europeans. The Europeans put the Native Americans through the most hardship because they executed numerous attacks upon the Native Americans, due to the fact that they saw themselves as being superior over the Native Americans.
The U.S was at the top of its fame, convincing many Europeans to migrate to America. Even though Europeans had first migrated around the 1500`s after Columbus`s arrival, The U.S had become and were still improving on their position of the most powerful nation in the world. Jobs were beginning to flourish. Europeans now on the land started to tease the Native Americans because how they looked and because they were a lot less educated and stronger than the Europeans. In almost all situations, the Native Americans did not fight back physically or verbally to their abusers.
In the year 1830, an act called the "Indian Removal Act" took place. Marches took place which wiped out five Native American tribes. The Choctaws, Creeks, Chickasaws, Cherokees, and Seminoles were killed. During a 1938 forced departure for American Indians, some Cherokee members were able to go across the Mississippi river while poor planning killed many of the remaining tribe members. This incident is now known as the "Trail of Tears" to the Native Americans. In more current time, Indian removal is present by placing natives in reservation camps.
Since not all Indian Americans were directly killed, population still remained due to the women. A rapid decision in the 1970`s to sterilize women was already in place. The Indian Health Service hospital in Claremont, Oklahoma was the first hospital to sterilize women when it became enforced. After the sterilizations, women were not given therapy, leading them to endure the pain. As a result, an average of about 3,000 women had been sterilized each year.
These actions have included exile, murder, bullying and unauthorized medical operations which clearly falls under the definition of genocide. Being a well known and powerful nation does not make it right to hide the historic information proving their participation in a genocide.

Never mind the fact that the United Nations headquarter resides on some of the very stolen land, but now the UN is saying that the United States should give Native Americans some of their stolen land from centuries ago back as a first step toward creating good will with Indian tribes. The idea is that such a move would help offset terrible racial discrimination that still exists against Indians in general. Some Indian reservations still have some of the worst living conditions in the nation, and their has been a rash of Native American teenagers committing suicide because the situation has gotten so desperate. |
This article contains actual information from the United Nations` files. The United Nations is an organization that wants many countries to be in good terms with other countries. For the first time, issues regarding the U.S were addressed. The UN says that the U.S should give land back to the Native Americans as a peace offering. The Native Americans still do not respect the Americans for taking their land, insulting, and forcing them to do things. They continue their dislike because racial name calling has taken a big part of their lives in their struggle to be normal. In one case, teenagers committed suicide because they couldn`t take the insults any longer. The article says that the U.S should begin their attempt to friendship by returning land, possibly starting with Washington D.C. I believe this is important because I interpreted this statement to say that the U.S should not be in America in the first place. Washington D.C is the headquarters of our country which we stole from the Native Americans Therefore, the U.S disrespected a whole race and continued their journey.
